1. Are acrylic nails damaging to your natural nails?

Acrylic nail extensions are some of the most popular manicures and women across the globe have been enhancing their natural nails using acrylic powder for decades now. You might wonder how acrylic nails are better than gel nails. Well, acrylic nails are durable, lightweight and you can take your nails to extreme lengths without having to worry about them breaking. The nail art you can create using acrylic powder is simply amazing and the effects created are hard to recreate with any other type of manicure, whether it’s gel builder or polygel.

Acrylic nails are not only amazing for the best nail art and long-wearing, chip-free manicures, but they also help to strengthen your natural nails. If you naturally have weak nails, an acrylic manicure can protect your nails from breaking and help you have longer nails without having to worry about chips and cracks.

So to get to the bottom of this: do acrylic nails damage your nails? No. Acrylic manicures should not damage your natural nails. Damage to the natural nail plate is only caused when the application or removal is not done correctly. So, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about when it comes to removing your acrylic nail extensions! It’s so simple you can remove them from your own home, without damaging your natural nail, without overspending and without entering your summer holiday fund!

4. How to remove acrylic nails at home with acetone?

If you were wondering how acrylic nails are removed, you won’t have to wonder anymore! We have created an easy step-by-step for you to follow so you can safely remove your acrylic nail enhancements!

Cutting down your extensions at the start of this process is really helpful, it not only makes things a lot easier for you as it means less of the nail will need to be broken down in the acetone, but it is so easy and simple to use. Get your trusty tip cutter and shorten your acrylic nail enhancement to where your natural nails are, or however long you want your nails to be after removing the acrylic powder.

Having the right nail file during the removal of your extensions is really important, and picking which one is best for this process can be confusing. With so many different file grits, it can be hard to know which one is the one you need. But, for removing acrylic nail enhancements, an 80/80 nail file would be best.

Coarse enough to easily break down the acrylic and remove it quicker than any other file grit, the 80/80 grit nail file is what you need! We recommend the Halo Elite Black Moon Foam Nail Files with 80/80 grit. Cushioned, durable and flexible, this nail file is perfect for the removal of acrylic nails! Designed with a half-moon shape which helps you to get into all the difficult small corners of your nails. Along with a straight edge for working on the side walls, it is perfectly made to work with your nails as much as possible.

Simply file the acrylic off as much as possible while being careful not to also file your natural nails. Smooth the top of the nail, gently filing down the acrylic covering the nail. Your aim is to make the acrylic as thin as possible, so this can take multiple times to remove completely. Filing off the acrylic nails helps to break down the protective topcoat and it will also make the acrylic breakdown easier when soaked off.

To soak off your acrylic nails, pour enough acetone into a manicure bowl to cover your nails completely. Put your nails in the acetone and wait for the acetone to be soaked off for 10-20 minutes. Another way of doing this if you do not have a manicure bowl is to soak cotton pads in acetone and wrap your nails with the pads and foil to soak off the acrylic that way, it is completely up to you.

It’s important when you’re removing your extensions to use a false nail remover containing acetone to break it down as much as possible. So to do this we used the Gelish “Artificial Nail Remover”, a salon-quality acetone remover designed to remove acrylics and soak off gel polish in a safe simple way, without drying out your skin or natural nails, leaving them healthy and conditioned.

After you have soaked your acrylic nails, you can remove the soaked-off acrylic powder with a cuticle pusher. Gently scrape off the acrylic from the surface of the nail, being careful not to damage the natural nails.

Once all of the acrylic is removed from the surface of the nails, make sure that all of the residue is removed also. Thoroughly wash your hands to remove any acetone from the skin. To add a bit of extra hydration to your nails, you can add a little bit of cuticle oil. Massage into the cuticles and nails until it is fully absorbed.

5. How to remove acrylic nails at home without acetone?

Is there a way to remove acrylic nails without acetone? There surely is! Similarly to removing your acrylic nails using acetone and a soak-off bowl, you can also use warm, soapy water to remove your nails! Don’t believe us? Try it for yourself!

It’s a very simple step-by-step process. Add warm water to a bowl and add your favourite liquid soap to it. Soak your nails for 10-20 minutes and watch as the acrylic is lifted from the nail plate! The sulphates from the soap help to loosen the adhesion between the natural nail plate and the acrylic powder, helping you remove your old manicure in time for the next!

Moreover, removing your acrylic nails with warm, soapy water is easier and is better for your nails and cuticles too! You can add a moisturising hand soap which will hydrate your skin while removing your acrylic nail extension manicure at the same time!

What’s even better, Manucurist just added a new range of hydrating Artisanal Hand Soaps! With amazing fragrances which last on the skin for hours! Whether you want a lavender scent, an orange blossom scent or a rose scent, the choice is yours!
