What is polygel?
Polygel is a mix of acrylic powder and builder gel, offering a lightweight feel on the nails and long wear. The hybrid gel comes in a tube and offers the best qualities of acrylic powder and builder gel to create a malleable gel formula that can be moulded into any shape effortlessly. The all-in-one formula requires no mixing monomers and messy powders, so no more fuss. With polygel, you only need a brush and a little control gel to help you shape it more easily. Polygel isn't self-levelling so you have time to mould your polygel nails before curing. The unique putty-like consistency means you can push, pat and mould the shape to your liking, making it beginner and at-home-friendly and advanced enough for professional artistry. It's lighter than acrylics yet stronger than hard gels and offers a much smoother, natural-looking finish.
How long does polygel last?
When applied correctly with the proper nail prep, polygel typically lasts three to four weeks before needing maintenance such as a fill-in or full removal and reapplication.
How to apply Polygel?
There are different methods of applying polygel. But, regardless of which method you choose, you will find the application quick and easy. Of course, you need to prep your nails first, like any other gel enhancement. Remove the surface shine, prep and apply a gel polish basecoat to ensure the best adhesion between your natural nails and the polygel.
Method 1:
Get your trusty pre-shaped nail form in your desired shape. Apply a bead of polygel at the base of the form. Apply the form to your natural nail with firmness and light pressure. Then, gently press it down until the polygel has spread evenly. Cure in a UV/LED lamp and remove the nail form. Using a nail file, smooth out the nail edges and remove the surface shine. Follow with a gel polish colour or top coat, then apply cuticle oil to finish your manicure.
Method 2:
You can also apply polygel like builder gel on the nails. Apply a classic nail form to each finger and dip your gel brush in polygel control liquid. Apply a small bead of polygel to each nail and smooth it out using the nail brush, forming the shape. Cure in a UV/LED lamp and follow the same steps with a second bead of polygel to strengthen your nails. Smooth the nails, apply your colour and gel topcoat, and you're done!
How to remove polygel
While some polygel is formulated so you can use the soak-off method with acetone, most still benefit from filing down the bulk of the product.
